I wrote off my car in a recently. I have comprehensive car insurance. The insurance company are offering me 3,800 E for the car even though to replace it with a similar car will, according to my research, cost 6,000k.

Should I negotiate with the assessor or just accept his offer?

Where did you do your research? If these are advertised asking prices from a web-site the insurance company will likely dismiss them.

Check that the insurance company's offer is VAT inclusive and ask what valuation they have placed on the written-off car (which will remain yours and they will expect you to sell it for a value they establish).

If you are sure its worth more then threaten them with the Ombudsman. I was offered 3000 before when my car was written off and i believed it was worth nearer to 6000. I sent a strongly worded fax into the insurance company and included price lists from a number of garages for similar cars and within 24 hours I was issued a cheque for 6500.

Ericsson :)
