Credit card request refused, why?

My partner has a cc with MBNA. We wanted to transfer the bal over to another institution to avoid the interest for a few months so we applied to Tesco and were refused.
I requested a copy of his ICB report & everything is up to date & borrowings are not excessive. Tesco gave him a rating of 454 which according to the ICB is good. He has a good income.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Apparently Tesco has currently got a very high standard for approval and both Tesco and Halifax are not doing much new business in Ireland.


Do a search for "tesco" in the Credit card section of the site. there are lots of threads there.

I dont think that we will be able to switch to anyone now as the know Tesco has had a look and refused. do you know of any other lenders that will take this on.

Several providers offer introductory deals and transfer deals. Just because you were refused by Tesco doesn't mean you won't have success elsewhere. You might not get the limit you want though to clear the MBNA balance.
