A friend has fallen seriously ill and is in hopsital.
Said friend does not have VHI or medical card.
Who pays the bill. No savings etc.
New house just purchased so no equity in same.

Medical care is more or less free here. She'll have to pay a daily rate, but it's usually capped. I think that, for in-patient treatment, it's something like €10 a day, up to €100 (can't recall). The ICU treatment should be free, except for perhaps the emergency room fee (€150?) Tell her not to worry about it - she needs to concentrate on getting better. If in doubt, ask the nursing staff at ICU and they'll be able to tell you the exact information but it will not cost a lot of money - nothing like it might cost in the US, for example.

Your friend is considered a public patient.
See above.

Sorry, my daily rates were totally wrong there. But your friend can at least rest assured that the costs are limited.

All residents of Ireland are entitled to "more or less" free healthcare.

Max cost = 75 approx per night in hospital, up to max 10 nights.

House and savings are irrelevant.
