Hi guys,

I wish to get a passport but my name is not registered on my birth cert yet (for whatever reason I'm not sure). I need a long birth cert in order to get a passport.

The problem is I need to get a baptismal cert in order to register my name on the birth cert but I'm having trouble getting hold of a baptismal cert. However, I do have the 'original' B Cert. from 1986 which has my name registered at a later date by the registrar and signed.

My question is can I get my name registered using the original birth cert and if not how do I get hold of a baptismal certificate bearing in mind I went to my local parish but they were not in possession of one.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Were you baptised in your local parish? I would have thought you had to go to the church you were baptised in in order to get the baptismal certificate, as that's where the register of baptisms would be held.

Yes I was but the members had difficulty finding my bapt. cert although I do know I was baptised there.

Thanks.

Are you sure you need a long cert for a passport. I only have a short one (my parents names aren't even on it) and I have received two passports with it, and there weren't any issues.

???? Have you asked why? Any idea?

How have you survived all these years without being registered - surely you need to be registered for things like PPS number and anything else to do with the Government?

AFAIK, a baptismal cert has nothing to do with either a birth cert or a passport.

It seems that your problem is that your birth was not registered?

If so, your best bet is to start with the General Registars office, info here:

I asked and it was uncertainty of what first name to give me. I.E which order to place my two first names in. My parents hadn't decided and the nurse said names can be registered at a later date. So on my long B.C. it has my first name and middle name registered in April '87 (6 months after my birth.)

I was on the phone to Joyce House and they actually told me my name is in fact registerd and the lady I spoke to in the office must've been seriously mistaken. She told my my b.c just said my surname and all other details of the birth except my first name and middle name.

I ordered a B.Cert today over the phone so I hope this lady was wrong.

You're all correct I was told it would be illegal to not have my name registered and I wouldn't have ever been able to go to a hospital, start school, get a PPS number etc.. etc...

My head is wrecked from this merry-go-round.

I too was registered without any first names at birth, they were added nearly a year later. No problems with my birth cert until this year when I went to get a copy. I went into the registry office in Kildare. Spent about an hour waiting as they considered my original birth cert 'invalid', even though I have previously gotten copies of it and got drivers licence, passport etc with no problems. They contacted the Dublin office who issued me with a brand new birth cert (new format), but they omitted my surname so I had to go back and get it replaced a second time.

Over the past couple of years we have received a birth cert, marriage cert and death cert with errors in them:-
Birth cert had wrong fathers name
Death cert had wrong christian name
Marriage cert had wrong witness name.

All 3 had to be returned for correction. On contacting the registrars office they were very reluctant to correct and effectively told us we were being very fussy.
