I saw a Harvey Norman Christmas ad on tv today. I couldn't believe it - on September 13th! 6 weeks before Halloween!

Anyone else find that kinda sickening?

Tesco were putting out selection boxes and other christmas chocolates this eveing in my local store!

I almost fainted......the world is really gone mad!

I saw a full display of Christmas cards in a Dublin city centre newsagent on August 22nd !! I also notice that Marks & Spencer have Christmas wrapping etc for sale now.

Does nobody think it's got better in recent years? I do an annual summer course the first week in August and until 2 years ago I always came back to Christmas cards and selection boxes everywhere!

Harvey Norman probably need to advertise for Christmas now as they may not be around come Christmas!!

Bloody hell. It's these sort of things that make me dislike Christmas! 3-4 months of it is bloody insane.

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I would agree with a ban on all things Xmas until Dec 1st. I think Holland have that in place, or at least they used to have up until a few years ago.

There is of course one way all us disgruntled consumers can hit back at these foks, just ignore every selection box and Xmas card you see. If they sell none in the next 3 or 4 weeks, watch the prices plummet.

But I'm afraid that there are enough idiot consumers out there to justify them doing this.

Anyone been to Debenhams in the past week? Full selection of Christmas decorations, cards and crackers to be had.

Can't they at least have the decency to wait til after Hallowe'en??

If anyone tried to sell me something Christmassy at this time of the year I'd be hard pressed not to kill them!! Bloody hell!

Or, Bah Humbug!

I agree. There is always some smug person who tells you, in mid october, that they've bought all their presents and have them wrapped and ready and are going to write their Christmas cards next week!!

They have probably put the turkey on to roast already!

Its like the school uniforms going on sale before the children even get their summer hols. Drives me mad

I know a few like that but they are like that regardless of whether the adverts are on or not. They tend to be people who buy everyone a presents - aunts, uncles so the reason is to space the money out. The presents tend to be non christmas as well.

I suppose these shops are desperate to sell goods so feel they have to start the christmas rush as soon as they can.

I agree that if you have a lot of presents to buy, it makes sense to buy a couple every week from October on instead of bankrupting yourself in December. It's the super organised, who head out some Saturday in September and buy all their presents and wrapping paper in one go, then go home and wrap and label them all, ready for putting under the tree that make me want to grit my teeth and tell them to calm down, it's still flipping Autumn.

You'll need to do more than that to be effective. Find the nearest manager (he/she is the one in the suit) and give him a polite bollicking, telling him that it is putting you off doing any shopping in the store.

In fairness, they need to have their Christmas stock sold by early December, so they can start displaying the Easter eggs and hot cross buns, which need to be off the shelves by early January so they can flog disposable barbeques and factor 40 sunscreen, which will have to be removed by late May so the back to school stuff can get a look in....

Superb, Liaconn!!!!!!!! :D

To be serious for a second, I think this incredibly early start to the Xmas marketing is a sign of just how much retailers need to get money coming in to their stores.

I'm sure many are really struggling and there has been a meeting or two at senior level when someone has decided to try to get a lead over the competition by getting their Xmas stock out now.
