Hi,

I was just wondering, if you exchange your driving licence say Irish for UK and then return here again, is it possible to change it back to Irish?

And is it just after residing in the country for more than 180 days you need to exchange it?

Many thanks!

An EU licence is an EU licence - why do you need to exchange it?

I know that certain xenophobic EU members insist that upon taking up residency you exchange your own national licence for one of theirs, but at an EU level the gnomes are working on harmonisation.

You'd be mad to give up a UK one....it lasts until you're one day shy of 70

cheers mathepac, thats what I was thinking, but a friend of mine has an EU licence from Belgium and any check points etc, the Garda always ask loads of silly questions.....

lol ACA thanks! yeah, and its not as shoddy as the pink ones from here that fall apart with wear n tear!

thanks guys for the feedback, appreciated! :)

The answer is yes but why would you bother? There is no need to.

I thought that the Garda / Police would be asking all sorts of questions, maybe its just when you have a UK / NI registered car. And a friend of mine with a licence from Belgium is always asked lots of questions. Even though the licence has english, like all EU licences!

Cheers
