I'm travelling to Dublin this weekend and wondering do u have to take the seat number g25 that they give u when u book

Chances are there will be unreserved seats you could sit in. But then, the seat you reserved will have your name on the sign over it to indicate that, so that may cause issues for other passengers who do not have reserved seats.

I've taken the train to Belfast a few times, and I've never used the seat allocated on my ticket. When my ticket is being checked on the train, the conductor/inspector never says anything either.

Just don't take a seat that's reserved for someone else, and remove the "seat reserved" notice that will be over your assigned seat so that someone else can use it.

What the hells wrong with seat your allocated anyway?

a) I'm a rebel, I don't like doing as I'm told :)

b) I like to stretch my legs and once the two seats opposite me were also allocated.

c) Twice, the allocated seat was on the left hand side of the train and the right hand side (as you're travelling to Belfast) gives better views.

d) I'm a fussy ol' git.

Happy now? :D

Well you'll just have to buy yourself two seats from now on.:)

All tickets now have seat numbers on them. Reservation notices on seats are pretty well history. If my ticket in numbered B46 I don't want to find somebody else ensconced there.

The Belfast train still has reservation notices, or at least it did the last time I used it. And not every seat had a reservation notice which I take to mean that those that buy their ticket at the desk have unassigned seating.

Have a look at [broken link removed]

Many categories of ticket have assigned seats. The assignment is recorded on the ticket but not by means of a notice on the seat.

You do know that you don't have to choose the seat they pre-allocate? Why not simply unselect the seat they have allocated and select one on the better view side (that's what I do)? If they are unreserved when you get onto the train they are generally unreserved when you are booking!

Well you wont be going to Belfast by train for a few weeks after the track subsided to-day. Will you be happy on the bus?
