RTE's new boxing reality show

Apologies Caveat. I did not realise that Ben would not get to fight. Pity, as it sounded like a few of the other contestents found him irritating and would relish taking him on.

Ah well, I guess it's back to plan A then - I'll just hire someone to beat him up :D

A few points:

Agression has a definite place in most sports, particularly contact sports, it's just that it needs to be controlled as otherwise it becomes merely indiscipline, i.e. counter productive.

I would definitely consider boxing a sport, particularly amateur boxing since the focus is on point scoring (involving skill) as opposed to pro boxing where the ability to knock yer man's block off is an advantage (though skill obviously needed as well).

Damien Dempsey used to do a bit of boxing so I'd say it mighn't be fair to throw him in with absolute beginners (as I assume the others are).

Thank you very much Shawady!

I have no interest in boxing or reality shows but I would be very interested in seeing that little twerp's smug face walloped a few times let me tell you.
So you are basing your desire to 'wallop' him on how he looks. :(

No.

Do you actually understand how this particular thread works?

This section is letting off steam (bit of a clue as to the type of content there maybe) and the OP started the thread with a bit of an assumption that this Ben guy wasn't popular. S/He wasn't wrong either. The thread or the content is not exactly entirely serious. I would have thought that was obvious.

This guy was discussed previously in another thread on the BBC's Apprentice. He came across as quite arrogant and full of himself. He was not too popular and it was nothing to do with his looks. I thought some AAM posters might get some pleasure in the sight of him potentially getting a hard time in the boxing ring.
As Cavaet said it was not supposed to be a serious topic and as it turned out he could not compete anyway.

Thanks for explaining (unnecessarily) how the thread works. I also know this guy from The Apprentice and irritiating or not, and joking or not, I still don't like the tone of some of the comments.

What do you mean?

Is it that you don't like the apprentice guy being talked about in that way or that you don't like boxing being associated with phrases like 'battering' or 'pummelling' etc? Or maybe something else?

Genuine question by the way.
