I did already live in rathcormac but sold our house 3 yrs ago after 2 yrs there. Now we have a baby & are hoping to buy a house next summer & are looking at different areas. I suppose rathcormac has appeal as the houses are fairly reasonable & we would prob have a max of 175k which wont buy anything in the southside of cork city where we are from & currently renting. I was just wondering if anyone who is living there has any advice. Has it improved in last few yrs. My son is our priority & we want him to grow up in a nice area with things like a park & shops etc. Is there any reason not to buy there apart from the 30 min drive & the toll which we wouldnt mind if it was the right house. thanks in advance. Emma

Was it not nice when you lived there?
I'd recommend having a weekend away in the area you have in mind before committing to buying a house there, especially if its in an area you're unsure of. Don't be affraid to ask locals, bar men, shop owners etc. what they honestly think of the area. It will give you an opportuinity to check out the schools in the area too.

Not that it wasn't nice but there was nothing there! There were loads of empty new build shops which mustve been bought by now. Also i didnt drive & now i do so im thinking that i wouldnt feel so isolated plus we are still in touch with our old neighbours so we would know people. Another worry i have is the school, my son wont be going for another 3 yrs so would they have a bigger school by then i wonder cos as far as i know its mostly prefabs being used for classrooms. My heart is telling me yes but my head is saying no. We lived in riversdale & loved the house so would go for one of these again i think but wont have enough savings for deposit til next yr so it'll be 12 months at least before we could buy. We would consider renting there in the meantime as 3 bed semis are around 550 a month whereas we are paying twice that now & finding it hard to save. should we go for it?

Those are your words, read them back over.
It seems like a no-brainer to me. I'd already have gone back by now ;)
If you're still in touch with old neighbours ask them about the schools..shops etc,
