Selling car auction Merlin or Wilsons etc?

I am planning to sell my 1998 Audi A3 by auction and would appreciate any feedback on the topic. In particular I was wondering if there was a particular company that is a better place to sell and old car.

I am going with the auction option as it should save me the inconvenience receiving a load of calls from tyre kickers. It is also quite expensive to advertise on any of the car sites at least this way I should be guaranteed a sale.

Re: Selling car at auction - Merlin or Wilsons or other?

I'm working on the basis that the car has a value. I won't be putting a high reserve on it so i would expect that it would sell. I appreciate that there are no guarantees.

merlin in naas will give you a value straight off then if it sells for more they give you a bit more.

You will be getting bottom money from the car but as you say it could save hassle of tyre kickers and the people that seem to just ring up for a chat.

it really depends on what you want for it, money wise.

Bearing in mind its an 11 yo car, with a value of perhaps 1,800 - 3k depending on how clean it is (with the 3k being OTT in my opinion), you can expect less than that at auction.

so,
if you want rid, go to auction;
if you need the money, or want a better price, sell privately.
