Just heard the news about John Hughes passing away at 59.

Grew up with his movies, and some of them, lets face are classics.

PLanes, Train & Automobiles, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Uncle Buck, Breakfast Club.

Granted a lot of them were soppy endings, but he gave me lines that I still use today!

RIP John, thanks for the memories.

Wasn't Pretty in Pink another?

All very formulaic and as you say soppy/cheesy etc, but great entertainment, and better done than the many imitators since.

Had a great ability to tap into teenage emotion and a good balance of humour/pathos. A clever guy.

RIP

Me too actually!

Yeah, Pretty in Pink too. Only watched Ferris Beuller again last week. It's such an easy film to watch.

Frye. Frye. Frye. Bueller. Bueller. Bueller.

The most-viewed (and most-quoted) John Hughes film in chez Celtwytch is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. His brand of humour is completely excellent. Thank you for your amazing contribution to the film world, John. RIP.

There was some other Lampoon movie set in London. "Look kids, Big Ben! Houses of Parliament!". I don't know how I manage to fit that quote into so many situations. I just love it.

Awful sad, though. I hear he collapsed of a heart attack whilst out walking. Nightmare.

European Vacation, when they can't figure out how to get off a roundabout and end up going around it many times. I use that quote too :p
