The weather - again

Ok it's almost 8 pm on an August bank holiday weekend. My barbecue, which I emptied of several pints of water 2 days ago is now some 2 inches full again with dew from the gods. I know we have this blessed climate which keeps the countryside green but GIVE US A BREAK !. The only light in this dreary summer at the moment is the dwindling bottle of AOC Chinon on the table next to the laptop. ( Just turned on the lights to stop squinting in the dark ) We've spent squillions of €uro on tribunals and bailing out the bankers ( I said bankers ok ). Is there any possibility that someone could come up with a plan to construct a stadium of light type roof to cover the country? It would give much needed employment to the thousands of unemployed construction workers. It might also bring tourism to see this new wonder of the world ( along with the Cliffs of Moher who are in good contention). Surely somewhere in the budget there are a few billion spare. Maybe if everyone sent a post card , or an ecard to Biffo he could sort it.

I was frustrated too in my attempts to paint a piece of furniture this weekend- I'm using a solvent-based paint so don't want to do it indoors. I was dreaming about some kind of perspex box ( very large) that I could place over the furniture when it starts to rain, but clearly I was thinking too small. Even a perspex roof over the garden would do me, but oh no, Graham has to have one over the whole country!

Sure then we'd spend our time grumbling about watering the plants. And listening to the farmers giving out. And imagine the birds confusion. Actually what about the planes? Will we have to have a few doors on the roof?

Nah Nah, we do it like on Star Trek where there are doors for the incoming and outgoing aircraft. Also think of the farming opportunities. I can see the Lynch Bages and the McGuigans flocking to plant Cabernet Franc on the wonderful terroir of the Comeraghs. Tourism also would benefit with Southern European visitors flocking to the Inchydoney beaches. Of course the only downside of that is having to learn Spanglish, Franglish or such ( as we northern Europeans seem to expect of those nations we visit on holidays ) ;)

Well since you are seemingly permanently poised to be in Papagayo, soon you should have nothing to complain about! :)

Tis true, the weather at the weekend was on the damp side but I managed a lovely snorkle on Sunday morning. If water temperature is your thing, I'd suggest a good wetsuit and a full bladder before you go swimming...

Good weather on the way folks! For a couple of weeks anyway.

But the Light is deserting us. I must have SAD cos these dark evenings are getting me down already! The day the clocks go back is a day that really gets me down.

been trying to get the garden finished for the last 3 months.....everytime i say yep its going to be dry enough to paint the deck it rains and rains and rains then when the weekend ends its back to work and then bang on 5 it lashes as i make my way home. its so mundane and upsetting, maybe god is crying over split milk or something like that. whatever it is he must really be hurting.

At this stage a couple of weeks of good weather will be heaven. It can get dark at 2 O'Clock for all I care :)

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students who went back to school recently for the good weather, bang on schedule with the rays.

Smashing day today. 21 degrees. Perfect !
Having said that, went for a snorkle and it was Baltic! Someone forgot to turn on the Galway Bay immersion...I was like a eunuch for half the day afterwards.

22 degrees tomorrow they are saying.
