i realise this reply is too late for you whackin, but for anyone else in this position, they can go along to local health centre with pps no's and get temporary ehic cards there and then. it takes 10 working days to get the card through the online application.Thanks Leper, I'm heading off tomorrow so its a bit late, have filled in the form as you suggested however, and I presume I'll get somethign in the post shortly.
I applied for one today in Galway. I was told it would take 3 weeks and I would get it in the post. When I pointed out I was travelling abroad 6th Aug as stated on the application form the assistant then said she would try to get me a temporary one in the post. How necessary is the EHIC if you need hospitalization or medical attention while abroad. Would you be treated without it?
