As usual, excuse ignorance in advance!! Do you need a dish or antennae with above or will just connecting to TV do the job? I mention this, because you can get TV's with "Freeview" built in and there is no need for a dish etc.

Yes, I believe you will need something to catch the signal (aerial/antenna and/or dish.) If you have the Freesat version you will likely need an antenna/aerial for Irish channels not in the package.

Freeview is only in the UK.

The equivalent In Ireland is the DTT testing going on, and you'll need a TV with MPEG4 decoder to get that, (most are MPEG2) and its only the 4 Irish channels. Its not everywhere either.

A different thing is FreeSat which requires a Satellite disk and you can get that anywhere. No Irish channels though, just the UK ones.
 
They will work in border areas-I live in Monaghan and have no problem with reception.
