Do Married Men do better in business

I had an interesting conversation with a few people and the general consensus was that family men do better in business. There were no facts to back this up but the perception was that a family man is more stabkle and would have more authoritive presence.

Just curious to hear what others think?

Well internationally there are plenty of very successful single gay men anyway.

Have a look here for example.

I think theres a conventional wisdom that they are settled and less likely to do anything radical like head off around the world at no notice, or have wild parties on Thursday nights or other school nights - which stands to reason.

I dont know that it goes beyond that - maybe they think that if some woman is soldiering on with him he cant be all that bad !!!

Married men do better in many areas of their lives from physical and mental health to their profession than single men. They may do better in business because of the actual greater stability in their lives provided by partnership rather than because they may be seen by an outsider as more stable.

Evidence please. I want to see statistics and figures before you quote such a subjective thought.

Hard evidence required based upon empirical research required.

Greater health I can believe in as the power of a woman to heal is fantastic.

Business improvement I doubt there is evidence of. I think you will find single guys have more drive.

Married men live longer and that is fact.

Let us suppose, for the sake of argument, that married men do indeed 'do better in business'

This might mean:

1. Being married helps you succeed in business. OR

2. Men who are good at business have a greater tendency to marry. OR

3. There is some other variable ( height or hair colour or tendecy to support Liverpool FC) which has a positive influence on a man's likeihood of succeeding in business and also on a man's likelihood of getting married.

You can't satisfactorily demonstrate cause and effect without a positive statistical correlation. But a positive correlation does not of itself demonstrate cause and effect.

I MUST resist *internal struggle*...it's difficult, but I must...
