Injured bird.

Yesterday a thrush flew really hard into one of the windows and got injured. I took him inside for a few hours until I thought he was ready to go. When I let him out he did'nt fly but waddled off quickly under the shrubs. No sign of him last night, thought he must have died until he appeared again today. Now he's not able to fly but is moving along much better than yesterday. Does anybody know if he'll recover enough and fly off. My problem is the dogs will kill him if they get him. I have them in their house at the moment but can't keep them in all the time. I threw out bread but he did'nt seem to go for it but he is picking something off the plants. Any advice please.

To be honest, your best bet is to ring your local vet in the morning to get advice.

Birds wont take food unless they feel comfortable. Maybe you could throw some nuts around his area where he is hiding or some bird seed, maybe they might eat that quicker than the bread ?

If he is still waddling, around maybe give it a day or two for him to see if his wings can repair by themselves. If he is not moving, then you should take him to either the rspca or the vet, the rspca is free whereby I dont think the vet is !

Yes hopefully poor thing will get flying again. I'm wondering in case it has any young, even though I don't know if its a he or she but funny thing I noticed another thrush landing on the hedge very near where injured bird was twice this evening and one time it had a worm in its mouth but it took off again so maybe with any luck this is the daddy bird and other may have been the mother bird.

I have had a number of birds who have met their demise on the windows/doors in my house.

I found a dead female blackbird this morning. She flew into a glass patio door about 3 feet from the ground.

The only good story is that last year a young robin hit a glass door and was stunned. I was really upset and coverd it with cardboard and left some water beside it. That evening the robin disappeared. I was delighted.

I hope it is one of the two robins who are currently in my garden this year.

My worst memory is looking at 2 beautiful greenfinches feeding on my bird feeder and then flying into my patio doors! Their last supper!

Having said all of this: What really annoys me are those who decide to visit uninvited into my house - usually starlings. They leave an incredible mess. I still can't figure how they get in. Down the chimney or through an open window?

I don't like starlings!
