Well that's it - no FF vote for me in Castleknock Ward

I haven't had one canvasser for the elections, despite being in most nights and off for the last week at home. Today I got FF party literature....introducing the candidates for Mulhuddart. Fine if I lived there, but we're in Castleknock Ward! So much for local candidates knowing local issues!

We had 3 fine gael canvassers and that was it. Plenty literature alright though. So the 3 that thought it worthwhile to call got my 3 votes for their trouble.

I actually gave a FF my number 2 based solely on the fact that he called personally. All the candidates were pretty poor and I was only going to give 1 first preference, rather than going down the list, till then.

It's not the no canvassers (although that would be appreciated). I've had emails from both Joan Burton and Leo Varadkar and so would have expected a call from the local guys, all of whom sent letters claiming to have personally opened the local park. It's the fact that the FF leaflets were for a completely different constituency.

Anyway am just back from voting. It was packed!

Yes I think if they make an effort to call they deserve a vote.

Even if you don't agree with their policies?

I've had FF, FG and Labour call to our door. I had a very long chat with the Labour Councillor which ended with us agreeing to disagree on certain issues. He gained my respect in that I said from the start that I wouldn't vote for him but we still went through issues - I imagine this is a very inefficient way of spending time close to the elections.

John Gormley was campaigning for my local GP councillor outside the DART station this morning.

Who is holding the Environment of Ireland together while he's away being ignored by the likes of me :D !

No I certainly would'nt vote for them if I was not happy with their policies. I suppose I was just thinking of the 3 that called to me were the same party and they are promising change for the better hopefully!

I had one canvesser, "Mammy Callely". He's a lovely lad apparently...

One of our FF candidates just dropped the pamphlet through the letter box. When I picked it up, on top of the pamphlet was 'Sorry you weren't in and I missed you' written in ink. So he simple dropped these pamphlets in the letterbox and scampered. What contempt for the electorate.

I had one guy call, a socialist.
He actually asked me to give the other socialist my number 1 and him my number 2. Some strategy they have.

I met an independent candidate outside my son's school yesterday and he seemed nice so I gave him my number 1.

I wasn't terrible well informed although I did try. I wish more candidates had called to the house.

In the last couple of days (including today) you could see the roaming hoards of party faithful running through my estate knocking on doors, leaving pamphlets.

I had a big “No Canvassing Please” sign on my door and must say all but 2 people skipped knocking on my door. One was a desperate FF candidate (as if I would vote for a communist claiming to be a republican) and the other was a Sinn Féin person who promptly apologized when I pointed to the sign and turned around without further discussion.

The amount of useless pamphlets claiming the miracles that people have worked despite the tuff times is amazing. My Green bin is ½ full of political newsletters, election promises (yeah right) and “sorry we missed you” letters.

The candidates in Mulhuddart Village are the same ones for Castleknock. The local election boundaries for these two villages were recently changed. I live in Mulhuddart Village but I vote in the Castleknock elections. Same candidates.

Well done. Must say I felt like doing the same. The FF candidate must have been pretty desperate alright.

Nothing to do with the electoral boundaries - I live in Blanchardstown and that's always been Castleknock. DOn't live anywhere near Mulhuddart

Here's a map of [broken link removed] Ward, for anyone who's interested. Mulhuddart Ward is indeed seperate.

Not Mulhuddart Village. It now votes under the Castleknock ward. I voted in it yesterday. I was only alerted to this by one of the candidates who told me at the door while she was canvassing. Apparently, about 2,500 people have been moved from Mulhuddart to Castleknock. So, the Castleknock ward include parts of Mulhuddart.

my point was that I am and always have been in casteknock ward, yet FF distributed the wrong leaflet to me
