Hi all,

Not sure that there is any solution to my issue but you would never know.
I had booked an Aer Lingus return flight from Cork to Rome to attend a good friend's wedding.
My Wife & I were flying out on Monday evening, September 14th & returning on Wednesday evening, September 16th.
This was working out perfectly work/family schedule-wise.

Now the problem - Aer Lingus has emailed me stating the Monday evening flight is cancelled and we have been offered the Sunday evening flight instead.
This causes a problem to the extent that we may not be able to make it.

I have searched direct, indirect & all around the world flights to the best of my ability to fly from Cork to Rome on Monday, September 14th with no luck.
If there was someone out there in the industry who may be able to point me in the direction of a solution to the issue I would be very grateful!

Apologies for the long-winded post.

Thanks in advance.

I've found a flight for you but it's diverted through Amsterdam and it's €1047 for 1 way. I take it your still returning home with Aer Lingus on the wednesday.

Dont know what you paid for the Aer Lingus flight but this seems very high.

Didn't mean to post the above yet oops....

the link is

Any chance you could fly from dublin, would open up a lot more options for you? Or does it have to be from cork?

If you can fly from dublin i've found a flight for €76.74 with ryanair.

Don't have the answer for you I'm sorry to say - we also had our flights changed a couple of weeks ago by Aer Lingus. We had booke to return to Cork on the Monday evening but now have to return on the Sunday evening - losing a whole day in Rome, most annoying & frustrating & no joy naturally when I emailed Aer Lingus - just the usual "we have the right to amend etc." Shoddy service really as they must have known that their schedule would be changing in Oct before we booked out tickets . Best of luck

I'm assuming you can't fly out early Monday (if you can you've a few more options)

Aer Lingus flight from Cork to Heathrow at 15.55 ... arr 17.15 ... currently about €20 all in only (a steal!)

BA's last flight to Rome from LHR is at 6.15pm ... too dodgy ... But Alitalia have a flight at 8.00pm which you shouldn't have a problem catching and it's only £70 ... obviously you'd be on 2 separate tickets yada yada but I'd be comforable with a 2h45 connection from T1->T2 in Heathrow no problem

Total cost not much over €100

Then hang on to your return Aer Lingus Rome - Cork flight on the Wednesday night

Thanks for the quick replies.
I'll start looking into the suggestions asap.
I am intending in using the Aer Lingus return from Rome so no issues there.
Just to clear up the point, I am tied up until abour 5pm on Monday so it needs to be an evening flight.

Thanks again, I feel that there is hope.
I really want to make this!!!

No I don't think you're going to do anythign better than the 15:55 flight I posted above if you want to arrive in Rome Monday night

The only other option would be a late flight from Cork to somewhere on the Monday night.. overnighting at an airport hotel and flying on to Rome Tuesday morning early.

Aer lingus have a flight from Cork to Amsterdam at 17:00 or Cork to Heathrow at 20:20... you could overnight at Heathrow or Schiphol and fly on the next morning - that would work (first flights from either city get you into Rome about 9.30am)

Then hang on to your return Aer Lingus Rome - Cork flight on the Wednesday night

From some advice given on another thread (where the poster asked about penalties if 1 leg of a return flight wasn't used), will the return leg of the OP's booking still be available if they haven't used the outgoing leg? Or will it be kept open because of the circumstances (outgoing leg not suitable)?

Definitely something to check before arriving at Rome Airport on the day to find that there's no booking!

Aer Lingus fares are priced as oneways so you won't have a problem ... of course the OP will be talking to Aer Lingus anyway beforehand so they'll probably sort it all out in the booking.. but even if they didn't I don't believe it's an issue on Aer Lingus fares as they're not based on return fares but 2x oneways (like Ryanair)

Well Doc,
It appears this is the best option and the one I will be taking.

Again, thanks for all the replies.
Looking forward to this...
