Hi all, been having a problem with my laptop for the last few days and was wondering if someone might have a solution?Whenever i try watching either a dvd,avi file or any type of media the picture keeps skipping during playback and is not in sync with the audio.Never had this problem up until a few days ago,can anyone help me out here?

dunno what did you install in the meanwhile?

Try using VLC. Solves all Video problems in my experience.

Ditto; you may have installed something (even just an automatic update) that's causing the problem. Can you try doing a system restore to roll back your settings to a restore point before you started experiencing this?

Hi guys, thanks for replying.Ya,done a system restore already but still have the same problem, and the only thing that i changed recently was connecting laptop to an lcd tv monitor, but that was a few weeks ago and this has only started a few days ago.

Don't think it's a codec problem to be honest,i had all the latest codecs installed already. It happens no matter what type video i watch, even on youtube and similar sites and on dvd's.

Hi AlbacoreA,no,the vlc didn't work either.Video playback just keeps stuttering no matter what player i use,so i'm inclined to think that the problem is with the laptop itself rather than the files or media player.

You could be right. I'd probably uninstall the sound card driver, then re-test, then do the same with the video card etc.

Finally got this sorted out.Turns out the problem was with the IDE controllers. They had changed from DMA mode to PIO mode if that makes sense?Anyway, got them reversed back to DMA mode and everything is working perfectly now,and thanks for any help.

Thats a weird one. I'd have been a long time before I thought of that. How did you find that? Well done you for finding it!
