Aslan on The Late Late Show. What a Band!

I saw Aslan on The Late Late Show tonight. They're still such a wonderful group and have produced so many great songs down through the years.

It saddens me greatly that they didn't hit the big time, especially when I see the success enjoyed by some of the modern day manufactured bands, who couldn't produce original material, to save their lives.

I saw them in Killarney a few years ago when they supported Elton John. Elton was excellent on the day but a little bit of me felt that Christy and Co. stole the show.

Ditto - thought the same as I watched them there tonight. They are excellent as ever.

I agree, one of those really talented bands that never fulfilled their true potential. Some of the reasons are well documented, others are a bit mystifying.

Yes, I deliberately didn't mention the problems they had over the years. In the case of other bands, these problems might have doubled their popularity.

It's a funny old world! :(

Oh I missed this!! What songs did they sing, hopefully it will be on youtube soon, have no access here.

I think they are great. Christy Dignam has a fantastic voice. I read his autobiography a few years back and enjoyed it.

Also enjoy Bagatell, Liam Reilly another great singer

In the words of Christy himself, Its a 'Crazy World' !!

They were fantastic on friday night. They are one of my favourite bands of all time and it saddens me that they never made it 'big'. If things went their way they would have been bigger than U2 in my opinion.

I listen to the Made in Dublin (Live at vicar street) album alot and love the pure brilliance of christy's voice and his interaction with the audience which makes them pretty unique. I also have a signed copy of the Waiting for the Madness to End album that takes pride in my cd collection

Didn't see them on the Late late - but I do like them.

However, (and sorry to rain on anyone's parade) but are they not almost better known for their covers than their own material?

I've encountered a couple of people who loved Aslan because they loved wish you were here - thinking it was their song.

I don't like that cover of 'Jealous guy' - I think its not very skillfully executed and much prefer the John Lennon cover.

Do admire Aslan's staying power tho - that and hardly a Madonna-style reinvention between them

eh...John Lennon's is the original version, he wrote it!

Aslan were on Ian Dempsey this morning, doing a live song...funnily enough it was Jealous Guy!
