Hi all, we are looking into place's to go on honeymoon and we are both very interested in going to barbados on our honeymoon, I have heard a lot about it, we are interested in water sports such as diving, snorkling etc.. also golf. We'd really like to be situated close to all amenities but also on a beachfront if possible. We do like a lively nightlife but that you can also get away from to relax and enjoy our time together, if anyone has been to barbados or knows anything about it I would appreciate any feedback, please recommend any of your best area's hotels etc...
Also if any1 has any suggestions for any other places, we are looking at Cuba also.

The only thing I heard about that place is that it is extremely expensive to stay there, for food and drink etc., so that deterred me instantly but I did start to look into St. Lucia, meant to be fabulous, less commercial but alas chose Vegas, New York instead, can only sit on a beach for so long.

barbados expensive?? you must b joking. beers for 2 dollars. meals for 10. hotels very reasonable

Just back form there was on honeymoon yes we did find it expensive to eat there but that depends on wherre you eat as it was our honeymmon we wanted to eat in some nice restraunts. The fish fry In oistion is ver cheep for dinner that is a friday and sat nite about 80bd for 2 with a few beers. we also ate in cafe sol in the gap that was about 150 bd for 2 with a few beer the rest of the restraunts we ate in were that bit more expnsive pieces, cafe luna ect.For drink it depends on where you drink we went to the gap most nights if you drank in the bigger bars down the strip it was about 12bd for 2 drinks but if you drank in the like of the watering hole it was about 9 bd for 2 drinks. we stayed in a place called little arches just accross form the beach in oistion it was about 10 mins from the gap and we used to travel by the reggee bus which was 1.50bd each that used to run till about 11.30 if we were there after that we would get a taxi which was about 20bd dollers out.

we had a great time there but things were a bit quiter then usual but that is to be expected with the reddission.

We also travelled to cuba 2 years ago and had a great time i think that you need to see it before it changes over the one thing we found was that the food is not great. i would go back to either of them in a heartbeat we also did st lucia when we were in barbados a week in each

Ashling,
We went to Carribeen for our honeymoon but first spent 3 days in New York.
Maybe you could consider splitting your honeymoon into 5 days New York and 9 days somewhere in the Carribeen if you are worried it might be too quiet for you. That way you can have the best of both worlds - Good nightlife followed by somewhere to chill out and do some watersports etc.

you call 150 bd dear?? thats about 55 euro for a meal for two and some beers. i wouldnt call that expensive

The time of year is important . Although many people will say they had a great time from July to Sept it can be very humid, wet and stormy. Hurricanes too if you're unlucky. The further away from that period the better.

For Barbados, try the Coconut Court near St Lawrences Gap. I stayed there about two years ago and had a brilliant time. It styles itself as a kind of eco resort, has its own very clean beach, and the staff are bang on. It's not too expensive, but then again it isn't exactly five star, so don't expect total luxury. But it is clean, has good facilities (beach bar, outdoor restaurant, clean pool), and the food and drink are good value.

It is about a mile or two from St Lawrences Gap, which is where the most racous nightlife on Barbados is, but the actual area where the hotel is located is fairly quiet. The gap is about 10 minutes away on one of the boogie buses.

The place isn't perfect by any means, but it sounds like it might fit your bill.

It is also reasonably close to Sandy Lane if you want to splurge on dinner for a night. When we stayed there I golfed on Barbados national for about $90 including club and shoe hire. A pretty good course - I think it hosted a PGA event in its heyday. Don't even think about the Green Monkey or any of the really top courses, unless you want to part with a minimum of $500 a round.

You can hire a jeep for pretty cheap to get around the island, and the driving isn't hairy at all (they drive on the left like us, and are fairly laid back).

There's also a race track near the coconut court if you are into the horses.....

I've been to Barbados at the end of Sept.
Dont go then as it is still monsoon season. Rained all the time.

The food is top class and pricey.
There is a classy end (the coast with the sandy lane) and an ugly over developed end - the south coast.

Like a lot of the caribean holidays things are quiet and hotel centric.

The island itself is not particuraly tropical - it looks a lot like here minus the heat.

There use to be a cheap hotel called the sandridge near the sandy lane. It had beachside rooms for a fraction of the price of similiar places.

hello.
Im heading to barbados in August for 10 nights with my boyfriend. going direct from gatwick airport. im staying at the turtle beach resort in the southcoast. i got it recommended to me as a few of my colleages have stayed here. its 5 mins from laurences gap. i like the fact the hotel is a bit away from the nightlife too. (best of both worlds really) i understand its 'monsoon season' but my friends have been last August and the previous August and had no rain whatsoever. i no it mite have been luck but people say Barbados tends to miss out on all the rain in july and august.. Gotta see for ourselves. another hotel i got recommended to me was the Bouganvilla in the South coast. Check them both out. we Got a great deal. 1800 for both of us.... couldnt refuse!!!!
