What was it like?

It seems to be promoted as a more sedate festival experience for the more ...ahem...'mature' music fan - I'm wondering if this is true or not and what they have done to differentiate themselves from Oxygen etc.

it is awesome, like a big carnival. Never been to Oxygen so don't know. I'll be going this year to EP, great craic.

Was at EP last year. Music is the focus, but beween comedy, cooking, debates, etc. there were enough alternative activities that you could go and not hear a concert all weekend - so that tends to attract a different crowd than Oxygen! Only downer was the public loos* didn't appear to be cleaned / restocked enough after the first day, but I suppose roughing it goes with the festival experience.

* thankfully I had access to the artist's enclosure :)

Thanks guys.

thankfully I had access to the artist's enclosure :)

Now hold on there - I'm sure you implied you have an artist type status somewhere on the this site before. In fact may even have been in relation to you, yourself, performing at EP or similar.

Come on - out with it!

Been to both each year for the past 3 years.

There is a HUGE difference between the festivals and the vibe in general.
Unless you're VERY into the bands playing, you probably wont like Oxegen. Last year on the first night, my sleeping bag was stolen from my tent. Every year before that, something else was stolen from me. There is a LOT of scum floating about Oxegen.

EP on the other hand is like a hippy commune. I don't know what it is but there's no scum. The music is fantastic and they really make an effort.

Going to both this year again but only going for ONE day to Oxegen to see the bands I like.

I've been to EP for the last 4 or 5 years and LOVE it! Very relaxed and friendly vibe, extremely well run and all round just a great weekend away. Great acts, worth doing a bit of research to uncover a few gems and a BIG focus on the alternative, arts etc etc. Going again this year and we seem to have a few extra people coming with us year upon year!

I must say I always admire the lineup at Oxygen, some top acts secured BUT I have found it a 'rougher' weekend and you have to mind yourself and your property. EP has a friendlier vibe and is by far my preference. Enjoy!

Having been to both definitely the crowd in EP is older and the capacity is smaller. The bands in EP the years I went were definitely more 80s 90s (Primal Scream, Eurasure, Beastie boys) which appeals to a more mature crowd, well it does to me anway :D The food/drink stalls included wine, excellent cider, something called MoonPie (their veggie gravy has to be tried!) whereas my recollection of Oxygen was burgers and chips (but I was smashed for most of it so maybe not doing it justice).

If you are trying to pick between the two I would definitely recommend EP.
