Not to mention there are serious questions about the safety aspects of having gas lines running through peoples properties, considering the huge pressure the gas is under.

Those pipelines are standard all around the world. There is nothing especially dangerous about them here.

The suggestion of having the processing off shore is the dangerous suggestion because of the increased change of accidents during construction.

I'm sure if the FF govt took your land gave you a pittance for it then gave the land to a private company you'd be very angry too.

I'd be careful who I'd side with in taking a shot at FF. There are some very unscrupulous characters out there who are getting more sympathy than they should be solely because they condemn FF.

Whatever you believe about FF, don't automatically jump to the defence of everyone who fights them.

What annoyed me about Maura Harrington is that she tried to use violence to get her own way. By going on hunger strike (which is an act of violence against oneself) she then tried to shift that act onto Shell and it's workers.

In order words, you better do what I want you to do, otherwise I will harm myself.

They make me sick the lot of 'em.

Are any of these protesters actually from Mayo? Know a couple of people living near the pipeline and they say that the bulk of them are the usual rent-a-crowd bused in (of VW camper vanned in ) hippy brigade that protest against everything.

Very few locals protesting. The hunger striker has been referred for psychiatric assessment and some others have been paid off.

One person, whom it was found out didn't own the land they said they did, protested after they were obviously not going to get paid for it!

At sea, local fishermen placed fishing gear all over broadhaven bay so that shell would have to pay them loss of earnings for losing their fishing area temporarily. They said they had fished that amount of gear and made loads of money there for years (hence claiming more). Trouble was, the revenue asked them where they put alll the money they said they were making over the years. Result: no fishing gear left out anymore.

It's worth heading there if you are in the general area to see for yourself the krusties in action. You will not find locals participating.

While not defending their action, I have to say that those in the video on this thread didn't look very krusty to me.
