I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 which I bought in April 2006 which is now about to give up the ghost. I phoned Dell to ask about the equivalent updated model and the Inspirons are now approx. €400.(base)

The sales person recommended a Studio 15 Laptop as a much better spec? -for €600

I have my music stored on computer ( a good bit), a few photographs - surf the web a bit, also bring home work occasionally (mostly word and powerpoint)

Anyone bought either of these laptops and can recommend - good or bad.

Also, do I need to re-install my internet on the new laptop - I have lost my codes (somewhere in the house) and this is probably why I have not bought the computer yet because I wont be able to set it up.

Appreciate any help because this is one area where I am very weak!

Thanks

wireless Broadband with BT - have wireless router downstairs. There are passwords somewhere in the house (from what I recall there are 2) one for router and the other something like ....@bt.bb or something like that - will have to look for them.

My ex set it up for me - he had great IT skills - but we are not really on speaking terms and dont want to ask.

Got the Dell Studio 17 last year and love it. Upgraded the battery, which makes it very efficient, but heavier. Probably don't need the 17" monitor, the 15" would be sufficient. Only got the 17" for watching movies, photos, etc. but don't really use it for that.

Ours is in use every day, and no probs. Didn't take the McAfee, bought Kaspersky in PC world sale instead.
