I am buying my 'intended' a rolex for engagement/wedding present, and am wondering if anyone would think it unreasonable that in this economic climate I might buy one at a good price.
The watch he has his eye on is 6820euro in the shops, and I have been offered this for 5500euro, but I think I might do better!!!!! Bargain hunter!!!!
Might we do better in London??? or does anyone know what the US price is. An 'oyster perpetual timejust', steel/gold strap, white face & roman numerals.... or as near as possible, the numerals can be different.

Yeah, I saved a few bob a while ago when I bought one of these [broken link removed] to match the new car :D.

Nice!! Went for the matching Aston Martin ones myself... Suited my complexion a lot better than the Bentley pair..

I purchased a Seiko watch in H. Samuel (Belfast) for 35% less than the exact same watch in H. Samuels, Dublin

Watch out --there are many fake/replica Rolex Watches on the market especially on-line .

Google ' how to spot a fake Rolex ? ''

Thanks for all the info. Where in Belfast would one look? Would one go to jewellers on Bond St. in London or do any of you know of any others that would be willing to do a 'good price'. This is like looking to buy a car, and going around to get the best price, when you know what you want.

You should google Geneva airport and jewellers and watch shops there. You can get a cheap flight to the airport, spend a delightful few hours in the airport (joking), pick up your watch which you can buy duty free, and get the next flight home. Watches in Switzerland are considerably cheaper than here. I emailed the main shop in that airport some time ago and they were back to me with a reply and quote within a few hours - sorry I can't remember the shop's name.

The correct thing to do on your return to Dublin would be to declare the watch and pay VAT on it. Not doing this would "save" 21% but would risk various repercussions.

Just one other thing. Does he really want a Rolex? I can't remember who said it, but a recent quote was "The only worse thing than a fake Rolex is a real Rolex". They're really the flash Harry watch for people who don't really know much about watches. There are a lot of much nicer watches out there. If I was to compare them to a fashion brand, they're almost the Burberry of the watch world.

But each to their own...and all that.

To add to that, if a person is obviously well off then fair enough, but if he isn't some people will think it's just a good fake. On a design point I think the date bubble is very ugly for what is meant to be a superior watch.

The chase is over. Got the said watch today, at our local 'Rolex' dealer for a good price. One or two irish jobs saved for another few weeks. Know what you mean about flash, this one is'nt. A plain 'Rolex'!!!!!!! I myself would love a Patek Phileppe when I get the chance. Saw a lovely one today, 'pre-owned' for €16,500, that is one nice watch. It will probably be 'pre-pre-owned' by the time I get it.
Thanks for all the info. Especially the site with all the watchs on it. The watch Mr.L was looking at came in at a better price than the offers on this site, and we have a genuine watch with a guarantee and follow up service.

Well done! Glad you got what you wanted. You also get the added bonus of being able to tell Mr. L that in the opinion of absolute strangers on a board, you have better taste than he does :) Pateks are seriously nice watches!
