Anyone have an iPhone? Due an upgrade next month and thinking about getting one.

Is it worth it?

Cheers

Personally I don't like it. I have had several problems with mine (seems to me my particular phone is a dud). Also Apple don't give you a replacement when your phone is going in for repair even when under warranty and my repair is taking at least 10 days. Also, I find it can't do basic things like send/receive picture messages like a normal phone would. I also don't like the way it displays text messages...it displays them as a full conversation so when you read a text message from someone all previous messages from that person come up on the screen. Now some people may find this very helpful but I don't, particuarly as you can't delete individual texts. Also, when you use your iphone first with your sim card and someone rings you whose number you have, the caller ID does not come up unless you have inputted their phone number using the international code (+00353). This means you have to manually input all the numbers again before you can recognise a caller. I also think that the phone coverage is worse with my iphone then it is/has been with any other mobile I have used in the past. I personally am looking forward to going back to a normal phone. Saying that....many people I know who have iphones seem to really like them and I am probably missing out on some tips which could correct some of the scenarios I have outlined previously. Bottom line is though I don't like the iphone. To each their own i suppose!

New iPhone coming out in June. Wait until then if you can somehow preserve your upgrade entitlement.

Wow. Thanks. Yeah. I'm stuck between that and switching to Vodafone and getting the Blackberry Storm. I hear what you are saying though, Apple wouldn't be the best when it comes to Customer service!

@lou2, I think a quick dose of RTFM might solve some of your problems. :)

BTW, the international telecomms standard for storing and retrieving Irish telephone number is +353, not +00353 or 00353.

I think you also need to state which iPhone you are using - original or current 3G?

As a matter of interest, if you purchased your iPhone and contract from O2, why would you expect Apple to give you a replacement?

I don't work for Apple or O2.

I have no idea what this is!

That's fine but I think you can get my general drift.

"I think you also need to state which iPhone you are using - original or current 3G?"

Original

"As a matter of interest, if you purchased your iPhone and contract from O2, why would you expect Apple to give you a replacement?"

Because the iphone is an Apple product. The product is faulty. It is not due to any damage I inflicted upon it and it is under warranty (the warranty is with Apple, not O2.

Read The Flipping Manual
... "I think you also need to state which iPhone you are using - original or current 3G?"

Original ...
The MMS restriction / oversight in the original iPhone has been rectified in the current 3G product.

As a consumer your contract and warranty is with the retailer, O2, and not the manufacturer.

No need to be nasty...was just giving my opinion on the iphone as the OP was looking for opinions. This is a great website but responses like this really frustrate me.

iPhone doesn't seem popular, does it? Was close enough to getting one myself but am opting for the Blackberry 8900 after much soul searching and internet browsing

Good to hear its a Blackberry 8900 and not a Blackberry Storm (what a piece of crap) ...my own opinion !

Had one got rid within a month total disaster , now getting an iphone but waiting til June / July when iphone O.S 3.0 is released.

Don't think it was meant as nasty - it's a fairly common acronym in the geek world. The "F" is mandatory in geekspeak, even if it's not directed at you!

I got the Iphone and love it! Lou2 is wrong about some of the things he suggests. There is no problem with numbers showing up without the 353 thing (whichever version you use). Someone else suggested that the MMS issue has been resolved but it actually won't be rectified until June in OS 3 - not fixed yet.
Start using apps on the phone and you'll have the best time ever!!!

Beyond that the Iphone takes a bit of getting used to but it is fantastic once you do. I'm not a geek but have fallen in love with mine.
One other thing, the new version in July is probably only a software update and not actually a change in the handset. So I'd suggest get it now if you like, and you can still get the s/w upgrade.

I didn't say there was a problem with the numbers not showing up...I said that the name (identify) does not show up unless you manually put in their number with the 353 prefix or whatever it is. As I said in my post...most people like the iphone but I don't for the reasons I stated. Personal taste I guess but it's a Blackberry for me.

Thanks Sherman.

What's new about it? Anything major?

I have been told by apple that all of the new features will be available to existing phones by way of an update through your computer.
One of the expected changes will be that the typing pad will switch to landscape mode when you rotate it so the keys will be even bigger. That is good for older people like me.

Watch this presentation :

http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0903lajkszg/event/index.html

Its the launch of the iphone 3.0 (due June / July ), it will tell you everything about 3.0 , i watched it all and must say that the iphone is most definite the future and for me .

Some cool new features and mostly improvements which in my mind will make iphone surpass all competition , the only this that Apple cannot change is peoples like or dislike to touch screen phones , that comes down to personal choice .

My 2 pence worth.
