Where to buy a cross-trainer?

Thinking of buying an elliptical X trainer and looking for suggestions for what piece of kit/where to buy. I'm not looking for anything very heavy-duty or very expensive (about €500 max. Preferably less, in case my good intentions don't last!). Have looked at a couple in elverys but neither brand googles well. Just wondering if anyone else bought one they can recommend buying or avoiding? Or if anyone has any experiences of buying exercise equipment from argos? Thanks..

we bought one from Elverys, and it works quite well. Will check the brand when I get home.

Best to look for a 2nd hand one imho.

These are the sorts of things that loads of people buy with great intentions and then never use (along with treadmills, rowing machines and exercise bikes).

So as a result the country's garages are coming down with thousands of these expensive 'clothes horses' and the owners would probably be delighted that they could raise a few bob selling them.

Most would be in 'as new' condition and a bargain could be had. Check out your local classifieds.

yup, can pick some up SH from
adverts.ie
gumtree.ie
buyandsell.ie

although the new years ressies might not have folded just yet.

or to buy new go to VJs in blanch. They deliver countrywide. about the cheapest you can get.

we bought a treadmill before Christmas, from someone who had bought it the previous january to get fit. mind you it hasn't been used yet, and looks like it was rarely used by the seller!:D

I have been looking at ads for second-hand ones, but haven't really seen any bargains. I suppose I'm a bit unsure about paying €300/400 euro for something with no warranty. I'm also new to the home-exercise-equipment thing and wondering if I need to buy expensive to get anything that'll last. I don't really care about dozens of programs or added gadgets - something simple that does the job, reliably. If I buy bottom of range, am I just putting my hand out for trouble?

PS Gallogly, I don't suppose you're remembered what you bought from elvery's?

Definitely get a second hand one, I only recently gave one away, that had been given to me by someone. People always buy these things and then stop using them.

I wouldnt worry too much about no warranty on a cross trainer, no motorised parts, you could hop up on it and see does it work ok yourself before buying off someone.

Other than that if you really want to buy new I found VJsports very good before and good after sales service as well.
