A friend was asking about the handiest way to collect payments from web site sales. He is setting up a small web only sales outlet as a side venture and wants the easiest method to manage the receipt of payment. Ive suggested Paypal. Typical sales value probably around 100€.
My question is whether it is sufficient to have just Paypal only on the sales checkout, and if there is any downside to not having additional payment methods such as directly by credit cards as well?
Any suggestions welcome, particularly posters with experience of recieving payments this way.

Paypal offers a shopping card system that allow customers to pay via the money they have in their paypal account or via credit card linked to the account, however you can also enable that anybody (even non registered customers) are allowed to pay via their credit cards.

Your friend needs a Business or Premier account to be able to do so and I don't know what they charge in Ireland.

People also use Google checkout, your friend should check that out too. I love Paypal though, its fast and handy, the only downside is the fees.

Yes,the fees seem to be around 3.5% for the entry level volume he would expect. Its not cheap, but handy to use.
Is the Google option cheaper anybody know?

Have a look through there, think its 2% +$0.20, so may be cheaper. I think also can get discounts for adding asmall ad on your site. Im sure a search about each service should help.

I use Paypal with eBay and find their fees very high . I think they may be over 5 %.
But Paypal is safe and secure and I have no problem transferring the money to my bank account .

Just remember that the buyer must also have a paypal account in order to transfer the money to the sellers account
