Problem recording onto dvd recorder

Have purchased a sony dvd hdd recorder and installed it.have a upc decoder. Can pause live tv and record it to the hdd but not to blank dvd. It also seems impossible to record a programme on one channel while watching another. Could this be correct or have i done something wrong in installation???
 
You have to play what you are recording on your TV, and record then.

This is what I have to do. IE I have sky plus. I must run the program I want to record, then hit the record button and leave the program running on the TV. I usually do this if I'm heading to the shops/for a shower etc

Yes - your upc decoder only has one tuner, so is only capable of handling one station at a time. An analog (traditional cable) is a different technology, so works in a different way.
However, if you are recording from cable, the you should be able to watch any other cable channel without affecting the recording.
 
Hi TarfHead, Am I right in assuming that there is a slight mistake here i.e. if I am recording from analog, it will not affect the watching of digital? I have this same problem so keen to figure out a way of fixing it.....thanks
 
thanks for your help re recording - it makes sense, any way around it - had seen much cheaper hdd recorders with freeview tuners incorporated - maybe these would have been a better option?
