Nice Hotel near St. James' Park - Newcastle

I am travelling to Newcastle to watch them play Sunderland on February 1st.

I have never been there before and am looking for a nice hotel near St. James' Park (within walking distance).

Any suggestions/previous experiences of the area?

Has anyone ever heard of The Legacy Inn? It is apparently literally right beside St. James Park (0.2 miles)?

I read mixed reviews - some say it is fine, others say it is a s***hole(!)

The area around st james park is rough enough, maybe thats why there's mixed reviews..
 
Stayed in Premier Inns, reasonably priced, basic rooms but clean, walking distance to St. James, the ground is in the city so most hotels would be within walking distance. Stayed at the Premier Inn New Bridge Street. Think it was 10/15 mins from ground.
 
Also recommend Jurys,great food, great location for St James Park and also Train station.Bring back a good result for Newcastle.
