Re: Where should I post to ask about car repairs?

Hi,

Welcome to AAM.

I have moved your post to the Car and Motoring Forum and changed the title of your thread to a more suitable one.

Oh thank you very much!!! I need to elaborate on it too... The Car is a Nissan MIcra, the damage is a scrape to the front and back left hand side doors. I have been told that I do not need to replace the doors but the hours seem extreme... can anyone give me an idea of fair cost?? Really cant afford €1400 before christmas (

You don't mention how many hours are quoted and if respray will be necessary. You also don't mention what part of the country you are talking about getting the repairs done.

If you run the search option in this forum only you may get some recommendations for repairers.

Thanks again... I am a little green here!! I am based in Dublin and I was quoted 26 hours work and respray. I will do a search now.

[broken link removed] near Dun Laoghaire does good work, they did a job for me some time ago (were recommended to me by a relative and a neighbour), but I couldn't say if they were particularly cheap or expensive. You could try calling them anyhow.

I used Dennings near the Spawell, got the recommendation from here and was very pleased with the result

Hi just joined up. Reversed into a parked car lst wk and damaged door its 01 mazda - need a new door guy arrived with quote for E1300 - asked for another quote is this acceptable or can I request someone belong to me to see the car?

thats insane and 01 mazda is not worth 1300 never mind a door.

Get someone you know to look at it.

Don't be too confrontational mind; you are putting the person out, but they are clearly looking to put a brand nex door from a mazda dealer on a 9 year old car.

Tks for that Frank, felt it was too much but the guy he went to was a crash repair specialist in Ranelagh/Rathmines area. I only broke the rear light and I have a focus asked him to go back to the guy he got the quote from and asked what he would do it for cash.

Totally disagree, it could've been an imported RX7 worth alot more. As you say the poster reversed into a parked car, crashes are expensive. If I was the injured party no way would I let the poster "give it to someone they know" to have a look at it. If the poster is not happy with the quote from a reputable repairer i'd say fine lets go through your insurance instead.

What makes you think they are reputable?

IME this is always a bit of a scam. A main dealer admitted this to me. The quote is very inflated and should it go through insurance, everyone's insurance goes up as a consequence. Insurance fraud, wholesale, with the participation of dealerships it seems.

What makes you think they aren't? If the injured party went to a Mazda dealer it would probably be higher again, so they may be saving the OP money. As I said if the OP reversed into my door I would do the same, I would want the best quality repair, not the OP's mate.

Guy's all I am asking is what you think - car is 01 Mazda Demio. I have ran some crash repair people 2day and asked for a quote based on what the details were in the estimate he gave us - all quoting under E1k. The owner of the car said he did not want to put it through insurance and that his brother was a panel beater, and that is why he went to the crash repairers in the Rathmines/Ranalagh area but I feel this estimate is over the top.

Yes, €1300 for a door for an 01 Mazda Demio is ridiculous.

Check breakers/scrapyards.

Talk about Karma, on the way to work this morning a motorcyclist drove into the side of me at a crossroads. No damage done though thankfully
