hey all,
Why would my pc tell me "to insert a disc into drive D"..... when there is one in there ?
Need to run a program for a job i am doing but the drive is not reading or reacting to the disc?
Can i run some sort of a check to see if all is fine with the drive.

Has something else on the system re-assigned the drive letter - if you go to explorer and right click drive d do you get an option to 'eject' (ie - it knows that d is the cd/dvd drive)

its funny, the cd is ejecting all the way out and then goes back in. It does this 3 times and then goes in and stays in.....

Thats not right - when it ejects it should just stay out - sounds like its got some kind of glitch in it (mind you its being recognised by pc so thats a good thing).

Hate to say this but reboot and see does it sort itself out.

there was never a problem with it before
cant understand it
It ejects when you ask it but when you insert the cd it doesnt pick it up on the d drive ..
HELP !!!!!!

Any possibility that recently installed software/security patches/upgrades are interfering with the CD reading software?

You dont mention if its a work or home pc - if its a work pc is there any group policy that is preventing users from using the cd drive?

Sounds like a software glitch, re-install CD handling software or relevant drivers - see if that clears it up.

Pablo74, this happened to me before.

Sorry to say but this was just the first in a succession of mechanical problems which resulted in the PC being scrapped a few months later. We even replaced the drive but the same thing happened. May have been malware related but nothing was ever discovered.

Sounds excessive to replace a whole PC over what could simply be a software or optical drive problem!

I do have same problem with a mobile phone SD card .....the drive asks me to insert disk when card is already in slot...............have no idea why this happens...

If you have the installation CDs that came with the pc they should have the drivers on there.

Alternatively get the make and model of the CD drive off it and google for a driver.
