I need to buy a couple of these as presents - obviously the 32gb for kids music. As I'm going to the US shortly and can save up to €90 each based on quick web pricing it's attractive. But does anyone know wether these are suitable for here i.e. access to all the functions UTube, webmail etc. If not and theres some converstion that will do the trick how complex is that for the technically challanged?

These are exactly the same and you'll have no problem with compatibility.

I bought mine in Canada and it exactly the same as the ones sold here!

On the same issue, does anyone know if it is possible to purchase iPods from a US website without incurring the wrath of the irish customs people?

Tks Addob. I must say I'm surprised always thought there'd be some type of encryption on gadgets like these.

I bought an 8gb from the states and it takes a lot of music and videos and podcasts. Do you really need the 32gb? Lot of money to pay just to watch a film on a small screen?

average film is about 700MB so not too many videos in 8GB. Thats before you even put a song on it. 32 is the min i;d get. I;m waiting for a 64GB version before i upgrade.

I have a 32GB iTouch and an 8GB iPhone, I have to say there's a big difference in the memory between them.

As someone who frequently travels on hong haul fights I don't know what I woudl do without my iTouch, I can fit an entire season of a show and a couple of movies and be completely occupied on the flight.

There's no way my iphone with it's limited memory would be able to do that.

Also, I find the battery will last around 6-7 hours of continuous playing although I assume that wodl be the same for either size of memory.

What do you use to get the movies onto your iPod Touch? I assume you are working from DVD in the first place? And how do you get TV shows on? From DVD?

Cheers.

I actually download a lot of the movies that I watch, and a lot of tv shows... please don't tell the law!
Then I used a program called (or iTouch in my case) to convert them for the ipod.
and then tada.

Cheers addob.

I have a DVD cloner programme so it looks as though I can use Videora for the final step. Make the plane journeys more bearable.

Thanks again.

Hi people
Silly question maybe.
If i get the missus an ipod touch, will she need a service provider or will it work straight out of the box?In other words, will she need to pay for her internet browsing on it.

Are you thinking of the iphone and not the itouch ????

The ipod touch comes with wifi, therefore she will need to be somewhere that wifi is available.

As Ron Burgandy mentions, the iphone comes with internet browsing through the mobile network, it also comes with wifi so that when you're in a wifi location is feeds of this.

Hope that helps!

DEFINITELY not an iphone - wayyyy too expensive to run.

No necessarily, you might be surprised, I signed up to one and changed my contract and now I'm actually paying a lot less per month!
