Hi,
Ive booked seats to travel to Hong Kong & as we are travelling with an 8 mnth old baby requested a Baby Basket (which can only be used at bulkhead seats i think). I received an email confirming my seats & basket etc but when i recently checked my flight details i notice that the return leg seats are not confirmed. I contacted the Airline & was told that these seats are not available & that i may not be able to get Baby basket for return journey. I have email & printout showing the seats confirmed! Are the Airline obliged to give me these seats as they were confirmed to me in writing?

There's no such thing as a confirmed seat, it's all a request and the airline can change your seat assignments at any stage. They are only obliged to get you from A to B not in a specific seat. Similarly you can only request a baby basket, they are not guaranteed. There are only a few seats on any plane that can accommodate the bassinets and it's possible that other families with babies got there first.

Keep trying for the seats and ask the airline to note your request.

Join the airlines frequent flyer scheme, and then ring their service line and request the specific seats. Then a week or two and again a day or two before you fly, do it again. Airlines like to keep frequent flyers (even new members) happy. I'm not saying this will guarantee your seats, but it stacks the odds a little in your favour.

I understand that there is limited seats, but i did request seats & got confirmation from the airlne last September that these seats were confirmed. When i spoke to them yesterday i was told that the outbound seats are definitely confirmed. I have joined there frequent flyer program when i booked tickets & sent an email to their customer services yesterday. Its just frustrating after they told me seats were confirmed after i requested them & now theyre not.

The same thing happened to my daughter and I on an Air France flight from Paris to Hong Kong in June. I had reserved the seats but when it came to checking in online the day before they were suddenly unavailable.
On the outward flight however the plane was only three quarters full, hopefully they will be able to accommodate you.

I had also booked a vegetarian meal, the stewardess told me I had not made a request so I showed her my e-ticket which clearly stated that I had, no apology was forwarded. However I got the tickets at a very good price and they also provide complimentary champagne!

The only confirmed seats on any plane are the flight crew.

From the legal notices section on the Air France website "4. Seat Allocation

The Carrier shall make reasonable efforts to meet seat allocation requests, but cannot guarantee the allocation of a given seat, even if the Reservation is confirmed for said seat. The Carrier reserves the right to change the seat allocation at any time, including after boarding, due to operating, security or safety imperatives."

Best advice I can give is to head to www.flyertalk.com and post on the Air France board. Sometimes employees post on the boards and they can be most helpful ;)
