Ladies.....I want to go skiing with new girlfriend (of 4 months) in feb/march for a week or so. would like it to be at romantic/pampering as she works very hard off and deserves it.... as well as good for skiing. Money isnt a huge problem..any recommendations welcome

How about Stowe in Vermont? It's a picture perfect village at the foot of a mountain. Flights to Boston can be reasonable if you book early and accommodation is usually okay if you book outside peak periods. Most of the hotels have spas attached. Check out www.stowe.com for more info. I've been several times with my OH and we both love it there.

We have been to Lilliehammer in Norway the past 2 years, very quite and great ski slopes, fly SAS into Oslo and then book the train into Lillehammer.

Not many larger louts or mad nightclubs.

Knealecat,

where do you stay in Lillehammer? agree with Norway great place to go!

I would highly recomend Zell am See in Austria, was there a few years ago its really beautiful & very romantic. It has a great hotel set on a frozen lake (sorry cant remember the name but google it) Really special

The Grand - I stayed there once - lovely, but on the negative, a long walk to to the lifts

I often base myself in Munich a get the train or hire car to various resorts in Germany and Austria. Base your self in the Kempi hotel and you have the best of both worlds with Spa's, the facilities and choices that a big city can offer. This way you see many resorts and find one that you love. Once one takes your fancy then check into a hotel locally.

All of these are an hour away or less and they cater for all experience.
Achenkirch
Inzell
Oberaudorf
Bad Kohlgrub - Hörnle
Itter / Muhtal
Scheffau am Wilden
Kaiser
Ellmau
Kramsach
Schliersee
Eschenlohe
Kössen
Söll
Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Lenggries / Brauneck
Tegernsee
Hopfgarten im Brixental
Oberau
Wörgl

Just started a thread on finding cheap accomodation in one of these spots, would love to just fly to Munich as you say and then head up to mountains and get accomodation on spec, but would this be a risky venture just after x-mas and coming into new year - Personally peace of mind of advanced booking would be good.

Its a fair point you make and I did come stuck once but that was the Austrian side. I have not had any problems in the German resorts.

Hire a car (hope for clear weather) and then search for your dream spot. Remember Munich is only an hour away with very low hotel occupancy so if all else fails "commute" back to the city.

In lilliehammer we stop at the Hostel right at the train station and bus station, the hostel is a lot cheaper than hotels. basic with a tv but we were out all day from 9 till 6 skiing.

Switzerland's my No. 1 -
was in Lillehammer last year - thought it was nice but much prefer Switzerland.
Unimpressed with the Raddisson in Lillehammer - and thought Norway was expensive for what we got.
What type of budget have you - are you looking for lots of night life / shopping or more chilled / scenic holiday?

Have to recommend Zermatt in Switzerland - lovely village, great skiing and stunning views of the Matterhorn from everywhere, also a really cool mountain train to bring you up the slopes (if you like a slow journey - cable car is quicker)

also everyone who has been to Wengen says that it is the bees-knees - not been there yet myself

We spent 5 wonderful days in Lillehammer last March. No maddening crowds, excellent place. We stayed in the Molla Hotel which is only 5 mins walk from the Train/Bus station. It's rated as 3 star and a pretty good one at that, prices from €65 a night. There's a wonderful bar on the top floor which gives fantastic panoramic views of the town. Well worth a visit even if your not staying there!
