Last March I availed of the free Household Insurance and filled out an on-line application.
I then received a filled out Proposal Form of same with this Note on a covering letter.

The Proposal Form enclosed is the basis of the contract between you and QUINN-direct Insurance. Please make any changes that are required and circle them and return to form to us. Please do not return this form unless amendments are required.

As no ammendments were necessary I did not return the form.

As the only document I hold is a "proposal form" should I not have been issued with something more legal or offical as I don't even have a receipt of payment as the insurance was free.

I feel a bit naked and vulnerable lol with Mr Quinn's current problems he might try to save paying out a few bob to me in the event of a claim.

Also read that the company disputes alot of claims made but they deny this of course.

Regarding your last point as a loss assessor I have more difficulty getting claims paid with Quinn then any other insurer.
Generally I have to start refering the matter to their board of Directors and getting the Financial Services Onbudsman involved to get them to even admit that the loss is covered.

If at all possible insure with one of the well known insurers as they generally will look after the policyholder.

you should have a policy booklet which details the terms and conditions of the policy. If you abide by these, they the insurer will pay the claim. If you don't, then the insurer probably won't. it is important that you know the terms and conditions, that you can abide by them. You should contact Quinn for the booklet.

Does Quinn Insurance have a rating by rating agencies?
Quinn were rated by Moody's up to some time ago, but they withdrew from being rated... rumour has it just before they were downgraded, but that is just a rumour and can't possibly be true.

My experience of Quinn is that they really pay no attention to what their policy document states and it is only when you start going down the legal or onbudsman route do they suddenly reconsider their position.
My advice stay away.
