Just needed a rant about this.

Dropped someone off at the airport this morning at 7.45am, passed through M50 toll once on the way to airport, then once on the way back. Decided to go pay toll immediately.

8.20am - tried to pay at a garage on the Greenhills road, system down. They advised me to go to a garage near Tallaght interchange.
8.35am - tried to pay at a garage near Tallaght interchange, system down. They advised I go to Spawell garage.
8.45am - tried to pay at Spawell garage, they dont do it.
8.55am - tried to pay at a garage in Knocklyon, they dont do it. They advised a local shop in Firhouse.
9.05am - tried to pay at shop in Firhouse, they used to do it but wont anymore because so many customers complained after being billed even when they had paid. They advised a Spar in Knocklyon
9.15am - tried to pay at Spar in Knocklyon - system down.
9.25am - gave up and came home.

So I spent over an hour trying to pay for 2 trips through the toll.

I am reluctant to pay online as I would rather not give my credit card number to pay.

I think Ive made a pretty decent effort to pay, are other people experiencing problems like this?

I have an Easypass tag and I stil get two or three letters per trip (I use it one a day). I wait for a few weeks 'till I have 45 or so letters (15 trips) and I call the 1890 number and get them all cancelled.

I paid over the phone using my mobile. By the time I'd spelled my (very ordinary) name several times for the foreign national on the other end and called out my card number a couple of times I'd been. on the phone for ages and used up loads of credit. I also tried to pay in a local Londis which sells the tags but they didn't have that facility

if you dont want to pay on line then its your problem, the credit payment section of that site has the usual security measures you'd expect on an ecommerce site

I have found the call centre staff very good.

I went back yesterday to one of the places that Id already tried and paid - made it before 8pm so not sure if the deadline was 8pm on the day I used the toll or (according to the signs up on the M50 itself), 8pm the next day.

Guy in the shop told me I can expect to receive a bill in the post anyway as feedback from their customers is even when you pay you still get the letter, so am keeping the receipt in anticipation.

Contemporary - I totally disagree with you, not everyone has a credit card, one of the options to pay is cash in a shop that has the machine installed to pay the toll. Seeing as I tried 6 different places to pay cash - as a recognised payment option - I dont see how its my problem, its their system that was down?
My own reluctance to use a credit card had nothing to do with online security measures.

It sounds like it may well be easier not to use the M50 toll bridge. Why not research alternative routes?

I know someone that used the M50 for a return journey, and then went on holiday for 3 weeks. When they returned there was loads of post from the toll company, looking for over €80! (return journey) Each letter was a few pages long.
They just went on the website and paid €6. They refuse to use the toll road after that.

Last time I needed to use the M50 toll road, I didn't. Instead I drove through the city, and got lost. Getting lost sounds less stressful IMHO.

I wonder will NTR publish a line-item summary of their costs since this was introduced and if so, how much will their postage costs have increased?

Bring back the toll bridge !!!! (no, wait .....)

What did people do before the m50? -exactly -stop using it and use an alternative route.
