If the garda are doing house to house after a serious crime/murder do you have to leave them into your house assuming you have not been involved. Can you answer them on the doorstep?

Also, if you have cctv which may have evidence, do you have to give it to them?
 
You do not have to allow them into your home, however they may return with a warrant.

Yes, they can demand access to any evidence.

and my understanding is that if the crime is serious you can be prosecuted for withholding evidence.

you mean a search warrant? Would they not have to have evidence there was something to be found or the person was involved in the crime to get a warrant?

Yes. They would need evidence. But in such situations a tame judge can always be found to sign a warrant.
