Hi just wondering if anyone have any good or bad experiences of Nice and the Cote d'Azur area or anywhere in S.France for a 10 day holiday in late june, what might the weather be like, sights to see, places to avoid, accomodation hotels, villa's apartments, all replies would be helpful.

the area half way between Lyon & Nice is fantastic, right in the heart of Province without the real tourist feel, small towns like Grignan & Vaison la Romaine are beautiful and your quite close to the bigger towns like Avignon & Orange while still only a few hours from Lyon or Nice.

Don't stay IN Nice - just visit it during the day. There are nicer places to be at night. (IMO)
Area between Nice and Monaco is my favourite (but i would say that as I have a place there)
Villefranche is a nice tourist orientated town along the coast (half way between Nice and Monaco). It's where all the Cruise Ships stopover on Med Cruises. Lots of restaurants and fine views etc. The route along the coast is served by an excellent bus (€1 per trip) and train (€2 or so) service. So you can bus from Nice to Villefranche to Monaco very easily and catch all the sights. ( A day bus pass costs €4 and also covers the Tram in Nice)

We normally go in June and September skipping July/August as I think it's too hot. End June early July likely to be anywhere from 25 to 30 degrees Celcius. Getting hotter going into July/August and getting more comfortable again in Sept.

Places to visit (depending on what you're into) would include

Villa Rothschild near Cap Ferrat (another nice seaside upmarket village)

Monaco - the Palace and the Casino.

Eze Village - a mountaintop village high high up in the mountains (you can also get here on your daily bus pass) Saint Bono has his villa in Eze sur Mer (the part of the village down at the sea)

Hotels - Villefranche - Hotel Le Versailles - up on the main coast road (but a walk down to the sea itself) great views and right beside the main bus route I've mentioned.

Frisia Hotel - nice budget hotel with great views (if you pay for a front room) in the town of Beaulieu sur Mer (less touristy more French but nice restaurants - a mile from Villefranche heading towards Monaco) This hotel is literally ON the coast and also beside the bus route.

Hope this helps you.

I am heading over to Antibes in the next few weeks and in my research for places to stay I came across this topic on the Antibes forum of Tripadvisor. Price doesn't always mean cleanliness and do your research.

Hi Izzey123,
At the end of september shouldn't your kids be in school? How did you manage to take them out for a holiday in school time?

What holiday experience are you looking for? Weather should be perfect in June, and yet you can avoid the peak crowds of July and August. I don't agree that you should avoid Nice, it depends what you want. We have an apartment there so maybe I also am biased but it is an excellent base for seeing the Riviera without having to hire a car. It has all the shops, restaurants and nightlife of a major city, with a 6km beach promenade! It also has a brilliant bus and tram service and great rail links throughout the Riviera.
Neither we nor our guests have ever experienced anything unsavory in Nice day or night but as in any city there can be areas to avoid late at night.
