Ok so basically I am over the 12 months on my meteor contract but want to cancel it because they changed the rules 11 months and 3 weeks into the contract. It means I cannot get the upgrade they said I could.

If I was to cancel my contract how long would I have to wait before I could sign up again for a new contract and therefore qualify for a new phone. This phone isn't going to last me the next 6 months which is how long they said I have to wait now.

I have argued with them over the past few weeks and they are not backing down so this is the only option.

Any help please?

If the 12 months is up then you can cancel at will. However they may choose not to see you as a new customer (because you aren't) when you try to start a new seperate contract, so you may not be entitled to an upgrade, and they won't allow you to use the existing number.

Why not switch to another provider (and take the number with you), or do you want to retain the 'free texts for life' or similar options?

I have to stay on the same network. I have no major problems with changing my number but obviously it would be easier to not change.

If it is a new number surely it would be a new account just like having two phone contracts on one name.

Try ringing a Meteor store anonymously and ask - they may differentiate between 'New Customer' which you aren't, and 'New Account'.

I tried that and the girl said it would be easier for me to suspend my account and then reactivate it, I don't think she understood so I think it's probably best to call in personally.
I may also try setting up a new account and say it is in addition to my other one.
I know its probably best to call in in person. I will try carphoneware house they are usually more direct and fair about this answering questions.

I was thinking at the end of my contract to switching to pay as you go for a while and then signing up with the same network again, if this is what you're thinking about doing, some of the networks do require a 6 month break before they will let you back on bill pay.

Therefore I think the information you have been given is correct!

I went in today. You can cancel contract switch to prepay pay and get a new contract 28 days later its a bit complicated though.
I opted for the easier option. I switched my number, cancelled my old account and opened a new one. Got a nice shinny pink samsung tocco for a great deal at just 57euro in the car phone ware house. The guy in meteor told me it would be 229 to get it on my plan.
Its been a long 6 weeks of fighting with meteor but I finally got my new phone.
