Hi
we have a 1998 Merc estate and are expecting another child soon( 3 in total), we would like to convert the boot and put 2 flip up seats in there ( as we also have a dog)- does anyone know if this is legal and if so where to go to get them fitted and seat belts, we live in south dublin,
thanks

Even if you could get someone do do this, would you consider it safe to put a child ( or an adult) sitting in the boot, where there is no buffer between them and the back of the car?
What happens if you are rear ended?

The safest thing would be to buy a people carrier where it is designed to protect the passengers in the event of a crash

Do Mercedes estate cars not have a seven-seater option? Perhaps I am mistaken (might be confusing it with Volvo) but there are certainly some conventional estate cars out there which allow for seven seats.

The Mercedes E Class estate has a 7 seat option. This is factory option and includes 3 point seat belts as well as the fold down seats. I doubt if this can be retro-fitted though.

Certainly we had a Volvo XC70 which was a 7 seater but you couldnt put a child seat on the last row, plus there was a weight restriction on them that meant you could only really carry children between booster seat and young teenage year, I think.
