Hi folks.
In dec.2006 I bought myself the above tv.
last week it stopped working and is stuck in standby;when the supplier realised it was out of guarantee he lost all interest in trying to help and suggested I phone a UK no; also to no avail I have been told that the problem is on the motherboard but the uk people will not supply one ;there solution is to send the tv to them and they may be able to fix it .My problem is that the tv could weigh up to 60 kgs plus courier costs etc. any ideas? or am I expected to bin it ??? .
Thanks in anticipation.

Is there not an EU law which states that warrantys are for two years. I remember something on this site awhile back about it.

Tell the shop where you bought it you are going to the small claims court unless they sort the matter out If you get no satisfaction go to the small claims court its easy ,cheap and usually gets results

It`s out of guarantee. I am sick telling people, when you want a flat screen tv go to Aldi`s as they give a three year guarantee and they sell their tv`s cheaper than I can get them trade! (I am in the business for almost thirty years). The days of buying branded names expecting better reliability is gone especially when repairing flat screen tv`s almost always means replacing whole panels which, if they can even be sourced, cost more than it would to replace the whole tv.
Aldi`s may not be the only retailer giving this kind of warranty...maybe Lidl`s, Argos etc?
At least you know that you are spending out X amount for a tv and you are guaranteed to get at least 3 years out of it.

Reliability perhaps, but quality definitely not. I spent ages last year researching different brands of LCD and found that the likes of Viewpia TV's were very cheap for a reason...they are generally regarded as rubbish. If someone wants to invest in an LCD TV, they should pay the couple of hundred euro more for a quality model.

On a related matter, a friend of mine was looking to by a 42" philips form Hardly Normal's and the tv was 899, but they convinced her it would be a great investment to part with another 200 euro for "extended insurance" up to 5 years. Imagine if you had to add an extrea 20-25% on top of the retail price for every item you bought in a shop!! Or imagine a car salesman askging you for an extra 5k to warranty your focus for a few years extra!!

Iggy the fact that the TV is over 12 months old will not stop the small claims court finding in the consumers favour I am in the Electrical business for the last 40years and have very good experience of being on the receiving end of small court claims the retailer very rarely wins
