Having read one or two other threads recently about landline numbers it got me thinking.
My business will be mobile so it makes sense to have my mobile number on website, business cards etc....but do i need to get a virtual landline number to 'look' more professional as i don't have an office or anything. Will people see that im mobile an accept that i don't have a landline number or should i get one??

Thanks.

Serious clients wont really care about that.

I know one person that worked in service area and had 50+ employees. Only thing he had was hes car and mobile.

A lot depends on the nature of the business and the nature of the relationship with your clients. In some businesses, this may not be a problem, but in others....

Personally I think it does look more professional if there is a landline. It gives the impression of having a physical office, and implies some form of success.

That person who had 50+ employees. Who's to say he wouldn't have had more business if he had set up a 'virtual' office to answer queries.

well virtual office probably would be good idea. But if the person goes into business from nothing or with very litlle i think it may be too costly for him.

But,lot depends on the business nature, ofcourse. But sometimes you can rent office space or conference room for small fee if you need place to meet with your clients in professional environment.. And don't need full time office.

Ok,so is it just a case of buying/renting a landline number that is then diverted to my mobile?
What are the costs involved?

most virtual office companys will for a fee give you address and number on which they will answer in theyr own or your companys name. And then forward the messages on to your e-mail. When they receive one or theres any post to collect.

Im not aware of this service costs in Ireland, but in UK virtual address for your post and phonbe answering costs 189£ per month and this includes few hours of conference room usage, of course prices differ as well as quality. But i dont know even a single virtual office company that would handle your calls professionally.

When it comes to landline you cant use your home landline for business. And should get business landline which will go into the phone book and will be marked as business. It probably would be cheaper to get one. But if you are not registering as a company and gonna just start business from a scratch.... Well you know what i mean ;)

Thing is i don't need an office or anything like that.I couldn't use the home phone anyway because im mobile, all i need is a landline to 'look more professional' and the calls will be diverted to my mobile but if this works out expensive i don't think i will bother.
I read before that eircom or o2...not sure who, does a call answering service or taking messages but like you said they wouldn't be able to answer questions about the business if the customer had any.

eircom does answering , and i think many companys may provide you this service. i can provide you this service for the right price :D :D

i told you my personal opinion , if you want to "look more professional" BE PROFESSIONAL , if you'll only look like one, you'll be out of business in no time , you must be professional.

As a client i will choose pro. not the one which looks like one.

Stay safe.
Over & Out :p

Why not get a landline put in at home? With an answer machine, also have a virtual office for post. It does of course depend on your business. Most people nowadays are aware that small companies don't have offices manned throughout the day and tend to accept telephone answering. Mine apologises for noone answering gives the caller the opportunity to "leave a voice mail, fax to, email to or text call my mobile".
The telephone shows the number of calls and to date there has been no one who has not done one of the above/ How do I know? Phone shows 7 calls - 2 left message, 2 sent email and 3 called mobile.
I am in the cleaning business so don't get customers calling in person if they do then my virual office people tell them that I am out and take name and address or call me and I am charged the cost of the call.

I can tell you this, for fact, (given that i have a mobile business for the last 14 years), it is always best to have a landline number. You can buy a virtual line off eircom and pay a monthly rent and a fee for call diversion or do as I do, buy a number off skype, pay 15 yoyos per quarter, have your calls diverted to your mobile. This way you can monitor your calls when you get back to your computer. Skype include an answering machine. I get alot of bogus calls so this gives me a way of monitoring them.
