Can anyone recommend a good sat nav?

I don't want to spend more than 150 (at the very max) on it. Would like it to be very user friendly, for use in Ireland (Europe also would be a bonus) and one that gives vocal instructions. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

No a TOMTOM - the XL ones have the wide screen & anti glare. Their maps are the most accurate ( ive had a few different ones & these were the best )They are generally about 200 but saw them in Argos other night for 159 & they had stock.

I would definitely recommend a Garmin (any of them). For more information, call into somewhere like Halfords, where they'll demonstrate it for you and you can check out that it has all the features you want before you buy. Avoid TomToms like the plague - I have heard nothing good about them.

The new TomToms are every bit as good as the Garmins. I also like the fact that the suction is incorporated into the back of the sat nav so much easier to transfer from car to car or hide away for security purposes.

I posted the offer from amazon.com below on another website the other day in reply to someone who was looking for a sat nav device.

Now when I try and access the offer, I get automatcally referred to amazon.co.uk. where it is not available at the price available in the US. As far as I remember it cost about $800 originally and was now reduced to $270. Another example of Rip Off Ireland. Europeans are obviously prepared to pay more than people from the USA so they fob us off with a site that is much dearer.

Won't be touching that! and will not use amazon again if I can help it

How about this one

A Garmin 370 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Bluetooth, Text-to-Speech, North American & European Maps for $269.99 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. (187.108 EUR. )

Doubt they ship to Ireland so you will have to get it sent to someone in the US and they can send it on to you.

Garmin are like nokia's to operate very easy, never had a problem with mine and have had it going 5 days a week driving for work for 2 years now, there a few new roads not on my software mapping but any new one should be up to date.

Bought Garmin satnav end July, roads not up to date, eg., it still thinks there's a roundabout at the Carlingford turn off the Dublin-Belfast road.

Gosh thats an excellent price Graham_07. Where abouts are the Sam McCauly chemists?

see www.sammccauley.com for branches. Apparently it's usually €199.99 so theres €80 off.

While I've a Garmin I got as a pressie last Christmas, I've seen a few reviews including one today which suggests the Tom Tom One is pretty good.

Thanks a million for that Graham, thats the best price for that one I can find anywhere!

Looks exactly what I was looking for, nothing too expensive but will help me get from A to B. Reckon I'll order it on-line today :)

Thanks for everyones help!
