Can I assume that we the taxpayer are not paying for Mary Hanafin, Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore (to name the ones I know are out there in Denver) to go to the Democratic National Convention ??

Mary Hanafin on the RTE news at one yesterday talking like she was a reporter for RTE

What purpose does it serve that they are there? Holidays ??

According to Hookie yesterday evening, they are on their holidays at their own expense

What a great place to go on your holidays eh, the Democratic National Convention, did they never hear of Spain or France like the rest of us !!

I'd love to know if they are really out there at their own expense.

Even if they aren't it is only the tip of the iceberg. We concentrate on these small expenditures when they waste taxpayers money for years like it was burning holes in their pockets.
We just got to accept it. The ones in charge of the purse in Ireland are an incompetent bunch. And the country is going to continue to suffer for it. There are no strong leaders left.

Who were the previous strong leaders ? Strong leaders who did not splash the cash or cream the expenses ?

Garret Fitzgerald is the only one that springs to my mind.

I've always thought it is a bad idea for politicians from Ireland to side with or even give the impression that they side with one of the main political parties in the US. The only thing that can happen is that we lose out if the other side wins and takes offence to our politicians supporting the opposition.

The official stance in Ireland should be that we want good relations with the US, regardless of who's in power.

Maybe we can send Willie O Dea to the Republican National Convention to balance things up!

Would this not make the Republicans hate us :D

God no. Willie can hand around the picture of him on the tank or the one of him looking down the barrel of a gun. They will love him over there! The NRA might even take him off our hands.
