Reducing C02 emmisions- If you had to choose

If it came down to it and you had to choose one option in order to reduce the CO2 emmisions in the atmosphere which would you choose?

To give up drinking milk and eating beef from C02 producing cows

or

Give up driving your CO2 producing car.

I rather kill off any species that don't benefit mankind then reduce the number of cows, cows are mans friend where as rats are not.

Plant trees to offset your carbon foot print.:p

That's very black and white. Why isn't there are a choice to cut back on both by 50% ? Or if you wanted to discourage that then reduce to 33%

Sorry, It's hard I know but that's the choice :) one or the other.

I'd give up milk and beef from CO2 producing cow before my car.

If the choice were a straightforward one or t'other, I'd give up the milk and beef. Without the car I can't work so wouldn't be able to afford the beef ;-)

Well my car is 12 years old, so that's reasonably environmentally friendly. I wouldn't be able to stop using my car because Ireland doesn't offer any viable alternatives.

Practically, I would have to cut the cows.
I'd drink goat's milk and eat different meat (more chicken, venison, rhinoceros etc)

I'm 1/3 of the way there....I don't drink milk :) How environmentally friendly is Soya ?!

Maybe we could use the cows as transport?

I'm a vegetarian who doesn't have a car. What are my options?

This makes no sense. If you take out Dairy milk what substitutes for milk are you left with Soy/Coconut/Almond/Rice/Oat & barley. All of which would have to be grown in massive quantitites to meet demand. This in turn drives up the cost of food as oats and barley are in demand in other food sectors. There is more work involved in processing these raw materials in to a milk substitute. The mechinisation involved in getting this up and running never mind the continuous mechanincal requirments for land treatment, seeding & harvesting, would have huge implications on the C02 emmisions. Also additional fertilisers and seeding plastics required. You could investigate these endlessly.

V rude Caveat about the emissions, if I remember from other discussiond Mrs Caveat is a veggie?

She is - and I am semi-veggie. Doesn't mean it's not true! ;)

Just a joke batty, no offence intended.

Bullbars, That's the choice. There is no substitue . Milk and Beef from CO2 producing cattle or your car. That's the choice

Niallers, between this and the "is it illegal to sleep in your car" thread, are we being used to settle pub bets?! Or are you genuinely being inquisitive?
There are so many variables that could be debated to death but you're not giving too much scope for debate!

The real solution is to eat termites. :D
I will continue to eat cows, drink their lactation and drive my car.
My car is 4 years old and so is probably less environmentally damaging than the 12 year old one driven by leghorn.

I fly quite a lot so that should make up for any accidental environmental kudos I build up elsewhere. I also have three patio heaters which I use liberally.

I'm being genuinely inquisitive. I'm interested to know what people think if it was a black and white decision.
