UK import write off?

I have just came back from test driving a UK imported 2006 Toyota celica from a private seller.The car looked and drove perfectly, I was delighted with it and as the guy selling it seemed nice enough I said I would buy it and gave him a deposit and would fix up the balance on Monday when the banks opened (this being a Friday evening).
When I got home I decided to run a cartell check on it and to my utter dismay find out that there are three owners where he said there was only two! But the main problem is that it also showed that there was "category D insurance loss.Vehicle damaged but repairable- insurer decided not to repair"
So what do I do now? Apparently category D loss is damaged but repairable ie not structurally damaged.
HELP!!!!!!!:mad:
 
Cat D is the least severe w/o class. Ask the seller about your findings. I'd look for a refund, or a c.25% discount.
 
Rs2K is correct - cat D usually is a less than a year old when it is involved in an accident and the owner opted to have the vehicle replaced rather than repaired.
 
Dont take the information recived from cartell as gospel,your much better off getting its original uk reg and doing a uk hpi check which will be alot more indepth and possibly more accurate.

I sold my car a few months back which was a japanese import myself being the first owner as i imported it myself.The buyer did a cartell check which showed 3 previous owners and misleading nct information none of which were correct.
 
Thanks for the replies guys, latest update is that I contacted the seller and he agreed to refund my deposit in full....phew!
I`m bitterly disappointed though..it really was too good to be true.But the main lesson here is...trust nobody!check, check and check again.

Cartell did Irish and UK, well worth it in my opinion as I probably could not have sold the car on if I had bought it.
 
The second hand car market both in Ireland and the UK has fallen apart. Don't worry, you will get the deal you are looking for
