Just after moving job and it means I will be driving an 100 miles per week. I am looking for a second hand car, 1lt or 1.2 4 door car. What make will give me good reliability? Have about 2,000 to 3,000 to spend.

Hmmm.... I suppose maybe something like a 2000 - 2001 Ford Focus or maybe a 2000 - 2001 Honda Civic, they'd be in around the higher end of your price range but you could get yourself a good deal.

If you were looking for something at the lower end of the price range maybe a Volkswagen Polo 2000 - 2002?

Do you literally mean 4 door - i.e. saloon? Or will 5 door hatch do?

When you say small - how small? Of the "small" small cars, Yaris as Starlite says, Micra or Colt are all good bets.

If you are male (and if you care) Colt probably has the best image, Yaris probably best reliability overall.

Ford fiesta- Miserly on fuel, Cheap to service and if a part goes it's cheap to replace.

Decent resale value and will sell quickly imho

Toyota best of all Had a Starlet for 11 years No trouble .now a Yaris, easy on petrol.too

Hi,

I have a 03 1.2 VW Polo 3 dr and I can honestly say I would highly recommend it to anybody who anticipates only driving about 100m a week. Due to the nature of my job, some weeks I can drive about 400m+ and I have never had any trouble with it at all! Mechanically sound, find it spacious(but then again I have no kids so if you have then maybe a 4 door would suit), plenty of trunk room, easy to maneuver and park and I do enjoy driving it! Granted, next year I would ideally like to upgrade to a Golf but thats my own personal choice. As far as small cars go, I can't find any fault with the Polo - and its a VW which tends to hold its value as well.

Hope this helps.

I'd agree with Niallers and RSK...For that size of engine and that price range it would be hard to beat the Fiesta with the Zetec engine.

If you do make sure you go for a 1.25l 16v and not the old school 1.3l. There's a world of diference.

the difference between the 1.3 and the 1.25 is like chalk and cheese. the 1.3 is based on the old crossflow engine dating back to the 70's
