repair or write off thats the question ??? saturated up to back seats but driving. What else could be effected in time - its only 6 months old & Quinn want to just replace the carpets.Appreciated

Get an independent insurance assessor to have a look. Seats, electrics, electronics, rusting from the inside out, security and safety systems in the long term would concern me. Typically in the UK these are written off, no questions asked.

Thanks a mil - trying to find an ndependent one - the insurance company just want to replace the carpet & spray a bit of air freshner!!!! ( the ryanair of car insurance )

Even if its dried out and works fine now down the line corrosion can set in on some electrical components, which could prove a headache and costly to fix.

Thanks for all your help - The garage are going to help me on this one( I think they know I would be selling it back to them & really dont want the hassle) They are going to do an assessment & get an independent one done too to get the insurance to write it off please God.

In the UK they are written off - Then get sold over here... so I am told.

they have been talking of writing it off then salvage - i always thought when a car was written off it went to the scrap heap - obviously not - would make you very weary of the second hand market here so

They may also be "written off", re-sold and put back on the road legally in the UK, it all depends on the category of damage sustained.

An insurance write-off in the UK does not necessarily mean the car is unsafe to go back on the road, it may just not be an economic repair from the insurance company's perspective.

The reason for the write off is they cannot guarantee something wont go wrong in 6 months time & as you cant reclaim on something perviously claimed for would be left with a bit of a mess. just seems a bit strange that someone else would be then allowed buy my "mess".

The insurance company will always place a "scrappage value" on the car and deduct this arbitrary (from my perspective) valuation from your settlement cheque. It is up to you to realise this value from a scrap dealer.

If they do scrap it remember to apply for a refund of any unused road-tax left on the vehicle, you will need the disc.

Yes I was awaiting a response from the tax office on that

Thanks for the advice
