Opening UK stockbroker acct?

Hi All

I'd like to open a UK brokerage acct but it seems you have to have a UK bank acct to do this. Someone said you can get around this by opening a current acct in one of the channel islands-based banks. I asked Abbey International in Jersey and they didnt seem all that sure. neither did ETrade UK. So is it possible for Irish residents to open UK current accts?

Yep you can...I used to trade with etrade..Go onto the HSBC web site...Open a 'passport' account..

And to trade with etrade in the past, they did not require you to have a UK bank account..I have used bank of ireland here in dublin with them..just meant I had to pay them to remit money

You don't need a UK bank account to trade with a UK stockbroker.

Thanks I'll give them a go. Is £12/trade the going rate or a bit steep?
